In the South everyone has heard the story of Sherman’s march to the sea and his famous protection of his beloved’s hometown of Savannah, GA. Anyone who has wandered by the river’s edge, inhaling the succulent low country air knows that Sherman’s love for his mistress was only part of the reason he saved the city. Although Sherman may have promised to save the treasured antebellum town in a bed crafted from rich plantation mahogany the outward appearance of bamboo on the Savannah bed imitates Sherman’s own façade- the indefinability of Savannah’s charm influenced him just as much as the allure of his lover.
